Ralf Schumacher, former F1 driver turned analyst, recently made the claim that Aston Martin should dismiss Lance Stroll. Whilst he doesn't recant those statements, he does change the deadline.
The German was talking about the dismissal of the owner's son, Lance Stroll, from the team looking ahead to 2026. However, he has since pivoted his stance, shifting his gaze further into the future.
"Well, because I overlooked what I said when I said that the Aston Martin team needs to come up with something different in the long term if they want to become world champions," Schumacher said on his Instagram account.
"That's true, and I stand by it," Schumacher affirmed.

Aston Martin's expectations reset, 'this is when Stroll sr. should dismiss Lance'

"The only thing is, unfortunately, the date is a bit wrong, so it's not for 26, but after 26," the German clarified.
Schumacher offers the Canadian an olive branch, but does not believe in his abilities being good enough to reap world titles.
"I do believe that A is a solid combination and B is also a good combination for the first year.
"Lance Stoll is certainly not a bad driver, but I mean, If I look at the qualifying balance, that is clear, and not only that," he added referring to the 27-0 deficit Stroll is at againt teammate Fernando Alonso.
"That's why I believe that after 26, the cards will be reshuffled, with Adrian Newey in the team, and I think they then will have a really realistic chance.

Schumacher points to 2027 not 2026

"And then, I think, the father will have to draw a conclusion at some point."
Schumacher then outlined a scenario in which Stroll could save his F1 stint at Aston Martin.
"Perhaps junior develops much better against his new team colleague then expected," but judging by his unconvinced expression, the German doesn't seem to have much faith in it happening.
"But I think the numbers and the qualifying record are clear. So from 2027, not 26," Schumacher concluded.

Aston Martin unhappy with Schumacher's comments

Recently Aston Martin took issue with some of Ralf Schumacher's comments where he urged the Canadian driver to apologise to the team following his scathing comments regarding the AMR25 during the Silverstone Grand Prix weekend, when Stroll called the Aston Martin 'the worst piece of sh*t he'd ever driven.'
However since then GPblog has learned that both the team and the German branch of the sports broadcaster have held several discussions regarding what Aston Martin perceive as unbalanced reporting.
