Juan Manuel Correa will face a "very lengthy rehabilitation programme" following the massive crash he was involved in during Saturday's Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps.
Correa was involved in a crash on lap two of the F2 race with Anthoine Hubert - who tragically lost his life in the incident. Correa sustained injuries to both of his legs and minor injuries to his spine.
The Ecuadorian's family revealed in a statement that the F2 driver is fully aware of the outcome of the crash, with Hubert's tragic passing. A statement released on Monday said: "Juan Manuel will remain in intensive care for at least another 24 hours to ensure that his condition can continue to be monitored by the surgical team.
"His parents are at his bedside can confirm that he is fully aware of the events that happened at the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday and are providing support and comfort to their son who is completely overwhelmed with sadness.
"Juan Manuel sends his well wishes and prayers to Anthoine Hubert and family."
