Jolyon Palmer: "This years race a catalyst for material change"

Jolyon Palmer insists that change needs to occur in order to maintain interest in the Monaco Grand Prix. He believes tyre degradation is an important factor and needs to be altered.

Speaking in his weekly column on BBC Sport, he joins in with the discussion of change at Monaco to bring back the spectacle.

“With the current cars, this track just doesn’t work and I feel this years’ race might just be the catalyst for material change,” said Palmer.

Palmer suggests one of the reasons why Monaco has changed in recent years, is due to Pirelli’s high tyre degradation. Drivers need a pit-stop in the current era.

A pit-stop that will never be taken because it pushes the cars to far down the order. Lewis Hamilton suggested yesterday that they alter the track to make it more entertaining. Palmer also suggested this, along with some other changes.
