Jack Doohan will drive the 'rookie free practice sessions' for Alpine. The French racing team announces that the young Australian will be in action in Mexico and Abu Dhabi.
The current number four in the Formula 2 championship will get his chance from Alpine to drive two free practice sessions in the current F1 car. Alpine must compulsorily give up two first free practice sessions to a young driver and is giving that chance to the home-grown talent. Doohan will get the chance in Mexico and Abu Dhabi during FP1. Doohan also drove FP1s in those countries in 2022.
Doohan is delighted with his opportunity: “It is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car on a Grand Prix weekend for the second year in a row. I am very grateful to BWT Alpine F1 Team for the chance to drive the A523 in Free Practice in both Mexico and Abu Dhabi. I feel prepared to step up and take over driving duties for the team. My sole focus is doing what is required of me by the team in order to contribute positively to the team’s outcome across the two Grand Prix weekends." Doohan won two main races in Formula 2 this season but can no longer take the title.
