Italian GP grid set: Gasly faces first-ever pole start as Antonelli starts deep

Gasly will lead the field away from pole position after producing the biggest surprise of qualifying, with George Russell alongside him on the front row. The Mercedes driver came agonisingly close to taking pole himself, missing out by just 0.060s and having to settle for second place.

Ferrari will occupy the entire second row in front of the Tifosi, with Charles Leclerc starting third and Lewis Hamilton foTurth. Both drivers endured a major scare during Q2 and were at risk of an early elimination, but ultimately managed to limit the damage and secure decent starting positions for the Scuderia's home race. Max Verstappen will line up immediately behind them in fifth, leaving the Red Bull driver within striking distance of the leading group.

Oscar Piastri will start alongside Verstappen in sixth after being handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding Hamilton. The Australian had originally qualified third, but his sanction has dropped him three places down the order. Franco Colapinto will line up seventh for Alpine after a strong qualifying performance, sharing the fourth row with Lando Norris, who starts eighth in the second McLaren.

Arvid Lindblad will start ninth for Racing Bulls, with Gabriel Bortoleto completing the top 10 for Audi. Oliver Bearman and Nico Hulkenberg occupy the sixth row in 11th and 12th respectively, followed by Carlos Sainz in 13th and Esteban Ocon in 14th. Yuki Tsunoda will start 15th, ahead of the two Cadillac drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez in 16th and 17th.

The biggest challenges, however, await those at the very back. Lance Stroll will line up 18th, while Kimi Antonelli drops to 19th and Alex Albon to 20th following their respective penalties. Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson will both start from the pit lane, with Red Bull opting to make further changes to Lawson's RB22 under parc fermé conditions after he had already been hit with a 35-place grid penalty for taking additional power unit components.
