Mercedes have dominated
Formula 1 in recent years but this season they have a formidable opponent in
Red Bull Racing. Jackie Stewart thinks this is a good development, he tells
Formula 1 Café.Stewart notes that it's mostly positive for the spectators. "Good for television," he responds. "The young, up-and-coming kid is the guy everyone is watching. It's nice to see someone challenging the leader. Lewis has led the pack for almost too long. It used to be that such a hegemony lasted about four years. Now Mercedes has been supreme for much longer."
Hamilton last had a truly difficult season in 2016 due to the battle with teammate
Nico Rosberg. The fight with
Max Verstappen is no different for Hamilton, Stewart says.
"It doesn't matter. I drove so many races behind Jim Clark and I couldn't get past him. I wanted to, but he was too good. I was the youngster then."Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen
The British driver is still on top in the world championship, but his lead is only three points. A victory in
Zandvoort could therefore ensure Verstappen is back in the lead in the championship.
