Pierre Gasly is under a lot of pressure at the moment and his boss Christian Horner has been very honest in his assessment of the Red Bull driver, admitting it is very difficult for him to compete against Max Verstappen.
Gasly stepped up to Red Bull having spent a season and a bit at Toro Rosso where he secured his best result in the pinnacle of motorsport, P4 at the 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix. However, his season at Red Bull hasn't gone to plan, as he sits well off the top five drivers and his struggles are made to look worse due to Max Verstappen's great form.
Verstappen has won two races and is third in the Drivers' Championship which has prompted Horner to admit it is hard for the Frenchman to compete.
"I think it is very difficult if you have to compete against someone like Verstappen right now, for me, he is the driver on the grid that is most in shape at the moment," Horner admitted on the F1 website.
Horner does, however, feel Verstappen is a good teammate for Gasly to strive towards, adding: “That is a huge indicator for every driver to compete with and to be compared with. As a sportsman you want to measure yourself with the very best, so for Gasly Max is the one he measures himself against."
