On an emergency episode of 'The Fast and Curious' podcast, Will Buxton joined in on the conversation surrounding the sudden shock of Christian Horner's exit from Red Bull.
As Buxton is currently working in the IndyCar series in America, the breaking news surrounding Red Bull Racing reached him early in the morning. With the news breaking around 10 A.M. BST (or 5 A.M. where he is), Buxton woke up to the surprising news.
He describes the news as “wild in terms of the impact and in terms of the magnitude of it."

Horner's departure was imminent

Buxton continues, "Yet not wild when you think of the last 18 months, and I think for a lot of people, there would be the question of why this hasn't happened sooner."
While the if and when were not known until it happened, there has been a buildup of rumours surrounding Horner being ousted from Red Bull.
There has been unrest and dischord within the team since the beginning of the 2024 season (or much longer in the case of some driver performances).
Buxton admits, "Probably a lack of surprise that it has happened at all. The big shock is Christian, for the longest time, has been Red Bull. He's the only team principal that team has ever known."
Horner Verstappen
Horner has worked with Red Bull Racing since its inception in Formula 1 in 2005, at the helm of the Austrian racing team for 20 years.
"He has led them through the good times, through the bad times for 20 years. So it has to be more than a simple drop-off in performance. They've been there before, they've been through this before."
Red Bull Racing has had dips in form in the past, from 2014 until 2020 they went through a title-less spell, which was cut short with Verstappen's first championship in 2021. So the dismissal of Horner, the British presenter believes did not come due to Red Bull's sporting shortcomings.
"So there must be more, and there is more at play here. And I think that's obvious to everyone.”
