Following the 2021 season, the FIA decided to bid farewell to Michael Masi this month. Christian Horner immediately expressed his support for Masi and reiterated that on Friday in conversation with Sky Sports.
During the championship battle between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, some debatable moments took place last season, with Masi not exactly coming out decisively. Moreover, there was a lot of commotion surrounding the decision making during the last race in Abu Dhabi, which led the FIA to decide to intervene and put Masi in a different position.

Horner wanted FIA support for Masi

While several teams had reportedly been pushing for Masi's departure for some time, Horner feels that the FIA is victimizing the former race director. According to the Red Bull team boss, Masi had actually deserved support in recent months.
Indeed, in the interview Horner says that he knows that Masi received death threats after the season. "The lack of support that was shown to Michael was disappointing, especially at a time when mental health is so prevalent," Horner revealed during the test days in Barcelona. "To hear that his family and he received death threats is not right."
