Honda junior driver looking to make the step to F1

With Red Bull’s engine reliability better than in recent years, Honda’s influence on Formula One is ever increasing once again, and that could pave the way for Honda junior drivers to make their way into F1.
One of the most likely to achieve this is 25 year old Japanese driver Nobuharu Matsushita, who is currently racing in Formula 2 for Carlin, Lando Norris’ former team.
Matsushita has had a tough start to the season, but came second in the feature race in Monaco and has impressed many with his driving style.
With Pierre Gasly’s struggles and Toro Rosso having difficulty finding drivers for their team last year, Honda could be the ones to supply a driver.
Matsushita is quoted by FormulaPassion.it as saying: “I’m still dreaming of Formula 1 and getting a seat there.

“This is a big dream for all Honda drivers, but myself and the other Japanese F3 drivers are here racing on the F1 schedule, which means the F1 people can see us race.
“It’s true that Formula 1 is a bit closer now, but then I have to deliver as well, for sure.
“Honda hasn’t set me any targets yet, just to get the Super License. I have to do my job here first of all. If I don’t do this I can’t make it, so still the focus is exactly the same compared to 2017.
“I have to perform very well in F2, and then maybe there are chances.”
