Honda held talks with Red Bull in Baku and Masahi Yamamoto claimed that he feels a positive relationship can be set up between the two parties. A deal could set to see the Honda team supply the Red Bull engine in both 2019 and 2020.
The Honda motorsport chief Yamamoto and Helmut Marko spoke about the expectations each of the parties have.
“Because it was the very first meeting, we discussed the conditions of both sides, what we expect of each other,” Yamamoto said to f1.com.
“It was positive. We do believe we were both satisfied. There’s a good relationship between us.
“We have the obligation to present the documents on 15th May to the FIA - I want to use the time we had left to discuss with the Honda board members.”
Honda supplied engines to McLaren but was eventually ditched after poor results. The Honda team are now working in partnership with Red Bull’s little brother, Toro Rosso.
Toro Rosso has achieved a 4th place finish, but many believe this was a fluke. Yamamoto went on to reinstate the team's intentions.
“When we deiced to come back to F1, the plan was not just to stick with one team but work with multiple teams.”
