Although Max Verstappen is still under contract with Red Bull until the end of the 2026, he is frequently linked with a seat at Mercedes. However, top advisor Helmut Marko is not worried about the Dutchman leaving.
Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, rumours about a possible departure once again flared up.
When talking about not having his contract yet extended, George Russell said with Mercedes' aspirations, "it’s only normal that conversations with the likes of Verstappen are ongoing."
Verstappen did not clarify his future neither at the FIA press conference nor when talking to Dutch media, including GPblog.
However, GPblog could also report earlier this year that the defending champion will stay with the Austrian team for the 2026 season, and will not use his exit clause. That is because there is no better alternative available.

Marko understands Mercedes' interest in Verstappen

Marko was asked by Austrian medium oe24 about the ongoing rumors. The top advisor responded briefly but forcefully: "We won't go into that, because Max will stay at Red Bull next year."
The Red Bull advisor emphasised that he understands the interest from the competition. "Toto [Wolff] wants to win. And he knows very well that if he has a Max Verstappen, his chances are greater," the Austrian concluded.
Currently, the Dutchman is third in the drivers' standings, sitting 43 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri. Up next is the Red Bull Ring, where Verstappen is the most successful driver, having won there on five occasions.
