Marko sees Max blast past Perez: 'P2 is like a win for Perez'

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko knows it is nigh impossible, but dares to declare the dream anyway: Red Bull might well win all the races this year. It would be a bizarre uniqueness. The Austrian is starting to believe it is possible, he tells Servus TV.

The Red Bull man was short of superlatives to describe his Dutch pupil's victory. "It was so sovereign. He was really incredibly strong." Verstappen won the race from P6, finishing more than 20 seconds ahead of teammate Sergio Perez, who was in the lead after four corners. "For Perez, that second place is a victory."

Now, halfway through the season, Dr Marko dares to dream aloud. Could it be, could Red Bull really win all the races in one season? After all, the team is now on course. Perez has won twice this year and Verstappen has won no fewer than ten times. The competition keeps hoping and dreaming. "We want to continue like this. It might be unrealistic, but we are really starting to believe it can be done," the 80-year-old former driver told us.

The record for most wins in a single year is currently held by Mercedes. The German racing team won no fewer than 19 out of 21 races in 2016, which is thus equivalent to more than ninety per cent of the total number of Grands Prix.
