Hamilton: “We choose reliability over performance”

Lewis Hamilton has stressed that Mercedes’ main focus is reliability rather than better performance, as the four-time champion thinks this is the biggest influence in a title race.
Hamilton currently has a seventeen-point lead in the championship over Sebastian Vettel, which suggests that Mercedes’ performance this season hasn’t been exactly bad this season. People were certain that Ferrari were going to run away with the title, but the Silver Arrows’ unbelievable consistency in performance has prevailed.
“We made this decision because we think this gives us an advantage,” Hamilton told Crash.net.
“In qualifying, Ferrari will beat us but we’re equal in the races.
“This weekend, we’ve worked tirelessly on improving our reliability.

“We did lose some performance with this decision, however,” he admitted.
So far, the decision has definitely paid off. As we already stated, Hamilton sits in first in the championship, as does Mercedes in the constructors’ championship. Ferrari and Red Bull both have had instances where they had to retire from races with technical issues, which is what costs you the most. It’s not pretty, but Mercedes simply know how to win.
