Lewis Hamilton regrets that Sebastian Vettel ended his career in Formula 1 this calendar year. The Briton battle against Vettel for many years and found out that he has a special personality, Hamilton told Channel 4 in an interview.
Hamilton saw Vettel as a direct competitor on the track for years, but also interacted with the German driver in other ways. According to the Mercedes driver, he found out in those conversations that Vettel was not only concerned about himself, but that he also wanted to stand up for his fellow man.
The seven-time world champion finds that very special to say the least. "He's one of the only drivers that stands for something. I mean, what other driver has really truly stood for something other than themselves?" remarked Hamilton. "That's something to be really admired in human beings. We're gonna miss him."
