Lewis Hamilton has said he is ‘hoping to be 100% by the weekend’ as he recovers from an illness that almost caused him to miss the German Grand Prix.
Midway during the weekend at the Hockenheimring Hamilton was almost replaced by Mercedes reserve driver Esteban Ocon on Saturday after the Brit revealed he had become ill.

But he did decide to race and ended up qualifying on pole but struggled in the race crossing the line in eleventh but promoted to ninth thanks to penalties for Alfa Romeo drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi.

Hamilton said earlier in the week that he had “cancelled everything I have for the next few days” to help him recover for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

But the Brit has now said on social media: "Good morning! Sorry I've been missing in action.

“I'm in much better shape coming into the weekend, hoping to be 100% by the weekened.

"I hope you are having a great week, Budapest is beautiful and the weather is great. Crunch time, let's go!"

Hamilton leads teammate Valtteri Bottas by 41 points in the championship.
