Haas has lodged a protest against the provisional results of the Australian Grand Prix. The team is unhappy with the way the race committee acted in the closing stages of the race and hopes to recover valuable points for Nico Hulkenberg.

Haas files protest with FIA

After all the chaos during the final standing start, Hulkenberg was in fourth place, but the position - in line with an earlier decision by the stewards in a similar situation - was reset to that of a lap earlier. With this, Hulkenberg lost his position and eventually had to settle for seventh place. Had that not happened, Fernando Alonso would have been eliminated due to the collision with Carlos Sainz, and Hulkenberg would have achieved his first podium in Formula 1 in a bizarre way.
Haas disagrees with the course of events and has therefore lodged an official protest against the provisional results of the Australian GP. The team is due to report to the FIA at 19:30 local time to discuss the matter. A long evening awaits the stewards, as there are many issues to deal with after the chaos that ensued following the late red flag.
