Max Verstappen finished fastest, but he gets a five-place penalty. Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez completed the top 3, earning them the front row for Sunday.

Qualifying started a little later than planned. Eventually, Albon, Zhou, Sargeant, Ricciardo and Hulkenberg were eliminated in the first qualifying session. Drivers switched to softs in the middle of the session. Tsunoda, Gasly, Magnussen, Bottas and Ocon were knocked out, with Verstappen squeezing through in P10. The start of Q3 was also postponed, but when the session started, all drivers started on the slicks. Eventually, Verstappen went fastest with Leclerc and Perez behind him. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, allowing him to start from P3 on Sunday, provided he is not penalised.
