FIA wants to remove lap times automatically after Alonso's infringement

The FIA is considering introducing a new measure for infractions during yellow flag situations. This is the view of race director Michael Masi, after the stewards were criticised for not penalising Fernando Alonso for a foul during qualifying in Turkey.
Ironically, this comes just days after Alonso's statement, in which he accused the FIA and the stewards of not treating everyone the same. Under this year's regulations, drivers must abort their lap when double yellow is waved, whereas previously this was considered a situation where one had to get off the gas.

FIA wants to delete lap times automatically

In qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix there was a commotion after the stewards decided not to penalise Alonso for breaking the rule. Masi then announced plans to have lap times automatically deleted for future infractions, which could come into effect as soon as Austin.
"We can probably change the wording a bit," he explained to The Race. "It's been like this for a while and we can probably tweak it a bit to make it clearer for everyone."
