Ferrari examined data: 'Drivers didn't do anything wrong'

Ferrari's tactic of making another late pit stop at the Imola Grand Prix did not go as planned. Charles Leclerc did not manage to overtake Sergio Perez for P2. In addition, the Monegasque also threw away his podium position due to his spin. Team boss Mattia Binotto analyses Ferrari's race.

Leclerc had a poor start and dropped from P2 to P4, putting Ferrari on the defensive early on. "We examined the data. The drivers didn't do anything wrong. There were probably some more wet spots on the right-hand side of the track," Binotto analyses at Auto, Motor und Sport.

According to Christian Horner, his team was more careful with the tyres and Ferrari had to make another late pit stop because of high tyre wear. Binotto disagrees with this. "We saw an opportunity to attack and hoped Red Bull would follow us to the pit lane."

The first part of the plan worked, as Perez was also called in. The difference between the two drivers after this was smaller than before, but Leclerc could not pass Perez at the decisive moment.
