The Azerbaijan Grand Prix produced plenty of surprises as Max Verstappen made it back-to-back victories. McLaren missed the chance to seal the constructors' title, and there were also some team order issues at Ferrari. Max Verstappen celebrating his Azerbaijan Grand Prix win | Photo: RacePictures
Max Verstappen made it back-to-back wins at the Italian Grand Prix and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, as he and Red Bull rediscover their race-winning form.
The four-time world champion looked to be miles away from any sort of title contention, but after a disapponting weekend for McLaren, Verstappen's title hopes could just be reappearing.
The Dutchman had his say on whether a fifth consecutive title is possible, while advisor Helmut Marko
entertained the idea before tempering expectations by telling people to wait and see how the Austrian team perform at the Singapore Grand Prix.
McLaren's chance to seal the constructors' championship went up in smoke after an uncharacteristic and disappointing weekend.
Championship leader
Oscar Piastri crashed out on lap 1, while
Lando Norris could only finish P7 after a slow pit stop dropped him down the order.
Team principal
Andrea Stella said after the race in Baku that Norris' P7 finish was the result of a poor qualifying session, where the Brit was only able to take seventh place.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix also saw some issues for
Lewis Hamilton and
Charles Leclerc, with the seven-time world champion not complying with team orders.
Team principal Fred Vasseur said that the Brit had a "misunderstanding" in not letting his teammate through after being told to do so over the team radio.
"There are rules that we know we've got to work with. And today maybe those rules were not respected," Leclerc said after the race.
