Former Formula 1 team boss Otmar Szafnauer revealed on social media that he was involved in a scary incident. "Many thanks to these two professionals for expertly handling our engine failure on takeoff."
- Otmar SzafnauerSzafnauer was flying with Delta Airlines in the United States when suddenly, the engine failed as the aircraft was taking off from Savannah, Georgia, to Atlanta.
The plane safely completed its emergency landing, leaving no one injured after the frightening incident.
The former Formula 1 team boss posted the incident on social media with the caption: "Fuel burning from the failed engine."
Later, Szafnauer also took a selfie with the pilots as well. "Many thanks to these two professionals for expertly handling our engine failure on takeoff (just past Vr)."
Szafnauer's ambition to return to F1
Szafnauer previously worked for Aston Martin (and its predecessors, Force India and Racing Point) and as a team principal for Alpine until July 2023.
In an exclusive interview with
GPblog, Szafnauer previously talked about his plans.
"If a 12-team opportunity becomes available, if and when, I want to be ready so that I will put an application in and I want to be ready so it can be successful," he said.
