Despite punishment, Steiner would do it again: ''Huge boost for the team''

Haas impressed during the Hungarian Grand Prix with a daring strategy. However, the change to dry weather tyres penalised the drivers with a ten second penalty, but Günther Steiner didn't regret his decision.

Unique strategy

During the Hungarian Grand Prix it rained before the race, but got drier and drier on the track. During the warm-up lap the drivers of Haas decided to come inside, to start from the pits on dry tyres. A perfect choice, because that's how Haas scored the first points of the season.
The painful thing was that Kevin Magnussen had to sacrifice one place, due to the ten second time penalty both drivers had had. Since 2016, no contact between the team and the driver in the warm-up lap is allowed to take place, so as not to help the driver too much, but this nipped a strategic option in the bud.

Strange punishment for Haas

"Of course we'd do it again. That penalty was not so nice of course, but since it's a time penalty, you can't appeal against it. This hasn't been done since the punishment, so we get a penalty. We have to move on, but the race was definitely a huge boost for the team'', says Steiner in the team preview.
In dry conditions Haas has little to say and that's how Steiner thinks for the time being. ''We don't have any speed in qualifying. We don't have any major updates planned ourselves and we won't get any more engine updates. We just have to fight like we always have and see how far we get'', concludes Haas' team boss.
