De Vries realistic: 'You can't build a career and future on hope'

Nyck de Vries is still among the possible candidates to succeed Nicholas Latifi at Williams. After his good performance in Barcelona, he showed the Formula 1 world that he is ready for the level, but for now, he does not dare to count on anything. He let us know that to Formule1.nl.

A reigning world champion in Formula E, he built up quite a status within motorsport in recent years. However, he never experienced a season in Formula 1. While it is still among his goals, he knows that things can change quickly within the sport.

The Dutchman, therefore, tries to remain as calm as possible and maintain focus. "You can't build a career and a future on hope," states De Vries, who considers himself realistic. "I think I am in a good position in terms of my possibilities and options for the future."

For now, Williams is still holding on to Latifi, but if the Canadian fails to improve then the team seems to want to opt for another driver. Team boss Jost Capito announced in mid-May that there will be no interim change, which means that De Vries is in the waiting room for the time being.
