De Vries backed in choice: "It's a very good decision"

Nyck de Vries has made the right decision to switch to AlphaTauri, according to Emerson Fittipaldi. Not only does it offer the Dutchman a chance to prove himself in Formula 1, but De Vries would also end up in the right team. The Brazilian tells Vegasinsider.com.

"It's a very good decision. He's in a very good team under Franz Tost," the former Formula 1 driver stated. "It is a very special team. They love racing. He was very impressive in his race with Williams and I'm sure he'll be looking towards racing with AlphaTauri next season. I'm sure he's going to be looking for good results. No doubt about it."

Tost himself seems to have a lot of confidence in De Vries' qualities. The team boss previously revealed that he had had his eye on the driver for years and was surprised that no team brought him to Formula 1. According to him, it makes sense that AlphaTauri went for the chance.

While AlphaTauri scored more than 100 points each of the last two years, it is experiencing a lesser season in 2022. The team is ninth in the constructors' championship with just 34 points, keeping only Williams below it. Haas F1 has the same number of points as AlphaTauri.
