This Russian is back on the international stage this year

Daniil Kvyat will compete in this year's World Endurance Championship. The former Formula 1 driver will drive for PREMA in the LMP2 class.

The Russian driver has had some success in F1. He has chipped in a total of 202 points and managed to get three podium finishes. In the announcement of its full WEC line-up PREMA elaborated: “Knowing his outstanding resume and renowned work ethic, the team is eager to start the work together.”

The first WEC race of the season, the 1000 miles of Sebring, will be run on 17 March.

Kvyat actually wanted to make his debut in WEC last year but to no avail. The FIA had tightened the championship participation rules for Russian drivers. This was in response to the war with Ukraine. G-Drive Racing, where Kvyat was initially supposed to drive, did not agree.

“I’m very excited to be part of it and very motivated to give my absolute best to try to put ourselves in the top positions," Kvyat said in a tweet.

It was also announced this week that Russian driver Nikita Mazepin will return to work after a forced break due to the war.
