Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum has said he isn't focusing on his future just yet. The European F3 driver said he was solely focused on winning the championship rather than focus on speculation that he could be called up to Toro Rosso for the 2019 season.
Rumours have linked several drivers who have been or still are a part of the Red Bull young driver programme including Jean-Eric Vergne, Sebastien Buemi and Ticktum.
Should the Brit win the F3 championship, he would have enough super license points to make the jump into F1 having been denied an opportunity to test for Red Bull earlier this season due to insufficient license points.
Ticktum leads the championship currently by 12 points with just three rounds remaining of the season.
“I don’t know (what’s happening next year). We’ll see. I’m not speculating at the moment," he told Read Motorsport.
“I don’t really think about (the pressure), to be honest. I just know that it’s a wonderful opportunity, so I’ve just got to view it as a positive.”
Whether or not Ticktum is selected by Red Bull for one of the Toro Rosso seats could come down to his success in the European F3 championship, should he not have the license points he needs, it could be another season waiting for his chance in Formula One.
