Coronavirus a wise lesson for Formula 1: ''Let's learn from this''

Because of the coronavirus, Formula 1 is at a standstill and that has its consequences. Because there are no races there is no income for the sport and the teams and the question is whether everyone will survive that.

According to Jan Lammers this situation should not be taken lightly. ''This kind of situation can never be underestimated. Organisations like Williams are now the first to be hit, and they just have a hard time. However, it also provides clarity, because the sport now sees that action needs to be taken'', says Lammers to Motorsport.com.

"The coronavirus has a huge impact, but I especially hope we'll learn from it. A lot of development costs may be lost now, but if you then have a sport that is much more efficient, then you can do much more as a sport much longer'', says Lammers, who himself is very much in favour of shorter race weekends.

''With the reduced budget cap and several frozen developments, Formula 1 has already tackled parts, but things are still not going fast. It takes time to make changes in such an institute, but the big changes will come into effect'', concludes the former Formula 1 driver.
