Why Horner has so much admiration for Perez after 2023

Christian Horner is impressed with Sergio Perez. There was much criticism of the Mexican in 2023, but with second place in the world championship, Max Verstappen's teammate can be very happy.
After four Grands Prix in 2023, Perez spoke out: he wanted to go for the world title this year. That dream soon shattered as the Red Bull driver proved unable to withstand that pressure. Verstappen won race after race and kept running away. Even to the point where second place in the drivers' championship was in jeopardy.

Why Horner is happy with Perez

However, Horner believes Perez has done very well in 2023. "Checo’s got the hardest job in the pit lane. I mean, to go up against a generational talent like Max is incredibly tough. And it’s a complete head screw," the Red Bull Racing team boss told Racer.
"It takes a broad set of shoulders to be able to deal with that and Checo, he’s had a couple of wobbles in the year, but he’s brushed himself down and he’s always got back up. And I really admire that about him. To finish second in the championship, his best ever year, is a phenomenal result."

Perez still has a contract until 2024 at Red Bull Racing, so he is locked in as the Dutchman's teammate for one more year. Much will depend on the coming season, as with many expiring contracts on the grid, there are more hijackers on the coast. However, it is Perez's seat to lose, according to Horner.
