Two races in one country?

As part of Liberty Media’s plan to extend the current season to around 25 races, Formula One’s Commercial Chief Sean Bratches has mentioned the possibility of holding two races in one country and suggested either China or the United States could be the countries to do this.

It wouldn’t be the first time one country has held two races in one season, Great Britain held races in the 80s and 90s at both Silverstone and either Brands Hatch or Donington Park, although the second GB race was held under the name of the European Grand Prix.

Similarly, Monza and Imola both held races until fairly recently, but despite Imola being in Italy the race was known as the San Marino Grand Prix.

F1 seems to have a permanent home in both Shanghai and Austin, so China and the US respectively would have a hard time creating that elsewhere in the same country.

Bratches said: “We see the US and China as countries that could support two races.
