Charles Leclerc seeks long contract extension

Charles Leclerc has slotted into Ferrari comfortably. While many things haven't been going well for Scuderia, they do know they've found a quality driver in Leclerc. The man from Monaco has out-raced Sebastian Vettel on four occasions during the 2019 Formula 1 season.

And according to Sky Italia, talks are underway between Ferrari and Leclerc of a contract extension which would last until the 2024 Formula 1 season. The Sky Spy suggests that Leclerc wants better pay as he earns "a tenth" of Vettel's wages because he's still signed as an academy driver. He earns 'just' three million per year with a few extra add-ons here and there.

Sky Spy also suggests that "Ferrari aims to armour their young 'jewel'". The extension would also mean the significant pay rise comes into effect for the 2020 F1 season.

Leclerc hasn't managed to record a Formula 1 victory but has been close in Bahrain and Austria. He also picked up four consecutive podiums. At the same time for Ferrari, a long contract might change their outlook. What is Mick Schumacher finds his feet in Formula 2?
