Kimi Antonelli was handed a warning by the stewards after Friday's Sprint Qualifying session at the Canadian Grand Prix. The same sanction was also given to Arvid Lindblad. Neither driver's starting position for today's Sprint will be affected.
After yesterday's Sprint Qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, several drivers were investigated for failing to adhere to the race director's instructions regarding the maximum delta time between the Safety Car lines.
The list included, among others, Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Oliver Bearman. In their cases, the stewards decided that no further action was necessary, as the drivers took appropriate measures to avoid impeding rivals on track.

Antonelli and Lindblad handed a warning

On the other hand, Antonelli was handed a warning by the stewards. In SQ3, they determined that the Italian had been driving unnecessarily slowly, as he did not allow any driver to pass. Lindblad was also given a warning for the same reason after the session. The Racing Bulls talent finished ninth after an impressive performance on Friday.

The Italian youngster finished second on Friday, finishing just 0.064 seconds behind his teammate, George Russell. Speaking after the session, he said to F1 TV: "The lap was quite bad, to be fair. This session was not clean at all. I made a mistake in SQ2, and that threw me off a little bit. Then I decided to go for lap one on softs without doing a prep lap and the tyres were a bit cold, so it was just a messy session. But still, P2 and very close. So the potential is definitely there, and we’ll do better tomorrow."
The Mercedes driver added: "We brought the upgrade, and that’s what it was giving us in terms of performance. Of course, we still need to understand the package a little bit more because the balance has changed slightly. But overall, yeah, it seems to have given us a little bit of an edge against the others. We’ll focus on it tomorrow."
