As contract talks heat up, there's still no clarification on where Carlos Sainz will be driving next year. Many of his fans fear that Sainz will struggle to find a seat in F1 next year due to his recent performances.
The young Spaniards team-mate Nico Hulkenberg has scored almost twice as many points. But in Thursday's press conference he defends his performances and argues they have been better than his points tally suggests.
"If you look at how many points I missed out on due to technical defects, that is disappointing. I have made great strides, but unfortunately, this is not reflected in the number of points collected."
He is currently at Renault on a 'loan deal' from Red Bull. Seemingly, if Daniel Ricciardo stays at Red Bull, Sainz will be teamless. It is then up to Renault. Sainz is 12th in the drivers' championship while Hulkenberg is in seventh.
