Martin Brundle believes Lando Norris is still firmly in the fight for the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, but insists the McLaren driver cannot afford any more slip-ups like his costly weekend in Canada. Speaking ahead of Norris’s highly anticipated home race at Silverstone which is under two weeks away, Brundle acknowledged that while the British Grand Prix will be an important moment, the title battle hinges on consistency rather than singular brilliance.
“He does [need a big result at Silverstone],” Brundle told Sky Sports at last night's
'F1 Movie' premiere in London.
“He needs a big every Grand Prix, really, I think, because all the points count the same, whichever country you’re in.” Lando Norris and McLaren at the 2025 Canadian F1 Grand Prix
Brundle: Norris needs consistency
Norris has already produced some standout performances this season, with Brundle highlighting his “genius drives” in Melbourne and Monaco as proof of the 25-year-old’s championship-calibre talent. But the former F1 driver and commentator also pointed to the Canadian Grand Prix — where Norris retired after a collision with teammate
Oscar Piastri — as the kind of weekend that could derail a title push.
“If he could do that [Melbourne, Monaco form] more frequently, he's got a great chance of the World Championship,” Brundle said. “But he can’t afford weekends like he had in Canada — not that he needs telling, he knows that very well now.”
With the championship battle still finely poised and McLaren leading the Constructors’ standings, all eyes will be on Norris in Silverstone as he looks to bounce back and reignite his campaign in front of a passionate home crowd. Before that, he’ll need to make the most of limited track time in Austria, where
Norris is set to sit out the opening free practice session.
