Gabriel Bortoleto suffered a heavy crash at Turn 1 on the final lap of the Brazilian GP Sprint.
The home hero, making his Formula 1 debut in front of his home fans, lost control at Turn 1 on the final lap while running in the top ten, crashing heavily into the barriers on the left side of the straight and ending his race in the runoff area.
A bitter home debut for the Brazilian, with the Sauber mechanics now facing a race against time to repair his car ahead of tonight’s qualifying session.
Following the crash, Sauber issued an update about Bortoleto's conditions: "Following precautionary checks at the circuit’s Medical Centre, we are pleased to report that Gabriel Bortoleto is ok and uninjured.

"The team would like to thank the circuit marshals, F1 and the FIA and the Medical Centre staff for their superb care. The team will now focus on preparing the cars for this afternoon’s qualifying session."
Lando Norris won the Sprint, fending off a late charge from Kimi Antonelli, who had fresher tires, while George Russell rounds out the podium just ahead of Max Verstappen.
A big blow for Oscar Piastri, who retired early after clipping a wet curb, spinning, and hitting the barriers, losing eight crucial points in the championship battle.
