Brawn and his right-hand man leave Formula 1 at the end of 2022

Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds are stepping down from their roles for Formula 1 in 2022. Brawn will finish the 2022 season, but his technical right-hand man will leave as early as the summer.

Brawn plays a huge role in Formula 1. Currently working as Formula 1's managing director of motorsports, he is mainly known for his successes with Benetton, Ferrari, Brawn GP and Mercedes. The Brit filled the role of technical director at Benetton and Ferrari, but also enjoyed success as team principal and figurehead at his own team, Brawn GP, which later evolved into Mercedes.

Brawn quit at the end of 2013, but his CV meant he would always be pulled back in. When Liberty Media took over, he was appointed as the man to shape the 'new Formula 1'. He chose his former colleague Symonds to take on the technical side of things, and it was their job to improve the sporting and technical side of F1.

With the new technical regulations for 2022 and the new engine regulations almost finalised for 2026, the job of both men is pretty much over. According to Autosport.com, Brawn will leave his current position at the end of 2022 and Symonds will do so halfway through the season. Whether they might move on to an advisory role is unclear for now.
