Bottas believes Alfa Romeo can catch top teams

During his time with Mercedes, the sky was the limit for Valtteri Bottas. There was enough money and manpower to keep developing the car. With the introduction of the budget cap this has come to an end. His new team Alfa Romeo can benefit from this.

The Finn spoke to Auto Motor und Sport Bottas talked about the differences between a top team and a mid-tier team such as Alfa Romeo. With his current employer - actually the Sauber team - Bottas can be found at the factory more often than with Mercedes. It is also easier to implement new initiatives quickly.

But in general, Bottas thinks the differences between a top team and a smaller one are not that big. Especially now that teams like Red Bull Racing and Ferrari have to downsize to meet the financial conditions of Formula 1. Bottas is happy the budget cap has been introduced.

"Absolutely. The midfield is incredibly close. Tighter than ever. And the gap to the top has also narrowed. The three top teams will certainly still benefit a little from their old advantages, but I am hopeful that we will catch up step by step," Bottas said.
