Sam Bird took a nail-biting victory in the Santiago E Prix which saw a third of the grid fail to complete the race.
Bird, who started fourth in super pole qualifying raced consistently throughout the 45-minute race to beat Pascal Wehrlein who didn’t even complete a lap in Marrakesh and Daniel Abt who make up the podium places.
Sebastien Buemi who was promoted to pole following di Grassi’s exclusion from qualifying, failed to complete the race as he hit a wall allowing Bird to take the victory.
Felipe Massa and Stoffel Vandoorne’s tough start to life in Formula E continued as they retired after 12 and 17 laps respectively, with Vandoorne knocking his front wing off as he crashed into a wall.
Lucas di Grassi’s weekend went from bad to worse as he received a time penalty for causing a collision.

The former F1 driver had already been excluded from qualifying for a braking infringement during qualifying.
Despite all the action and the tight finish, Bird found the time post-race to impersonate Kylian Mbappe and described himself as the “hunter.”
