Binotto hits out at FIA decision: 'They need to do a better job'

Mattia Binotto is unhappy with the way the FIA handled the final stage of the Italian Grand Prix. According to the Ferrari team boss, the race committee could have made quicker decisions to restart the race.

Charles Leclerc started from pole position on Sunday, but the Monegasque again failed to finish first. It was Max Verstappen who took the win at the Italian circuit, but in the closing stages of the race, Leclerc did not get the chance to battle it out with his rival. Daniel Ricciardo had to park his car at the side of the track due to an engine problem, which caused a safety car to be called out just a few laps before the end.

In the end, the race was not restarted and Verstappen and Leclerc crossed the finish line behind the safety car. "The safety car came in front of George. Even if it was ahead of him, no reason not to release the cars between safety cars and leader. Now we know there is a minimum lap time so it's fully safe to release the cars," Binotto began on Sky Sports.

"To wait so much is simply wrong. It's not great for the sport, after Abu Dhabi last year we had lots of discussions on how to improve. The final objective is to restart the race as soon as we can. The FIA changed a lot in that area but they need more experience and do a better job. F1 deserves it in that respect. I do not agree, in the regulations, there is a minimum lap time that they have to respect," said the team boss.
