Having crashed in qualifying, Charles Leclerc had it all to do in recovering his Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend but the Ferrari man was able to reach fifth place in the race, finishing just two places off of the podium.
Leclerc had looked set to be the favourite for pole position around the Baku City street circuit after dominating in FP3 but a lock-up going into the castle section at turn eight saw the Monegasque's weekend evolve into damage limitation.
He gave Mercedes a fright in the opening stages of the race, lapping at a pace that ended up requiring the leaders to cover him off in the eventuality of a safety car that, bizarrely for Baku, never arrived.
Ultimately, a podium finish was out of reach but a late stop for fresh soft tyres netted Leclerc an additional point for fastest lap. He was voted as driver of the day for the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
