Ferrari are in danger of throwing away both the drivers’ and constructors’ championship despite leading both after the British Grand Prix. A series of errors from
Sebastian Vettel and the team has led to the Italian team trailing Mercedes by 25 points and Vettel lagging 30 points behind
Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes have had a pace advantage over Ferrari for the past four years, but this season, it is widely believed that Ferrari hold the better car.
It would be considered a failure if Ferrari did not win their first championships for ten years and team
Maurizio Arrivabene has said that the team must improve in Singapore, a track where Ferrari are expected to again be the fastest car.
In 2017, Singapore was expected to be the race where Vettel gained back ground on Hamilton, but after qualifying on pole he was involved in a first corner accident with his team mate Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton duly took the win and the title and Arrivabene encouraged the team to prepare for the race.
He said: “We know we have a very strong car, which was clearly demonstrated by the fact we monopolised the front row of the grid [at Monza]. Now, the important thing is to react as a team, in an orderly and determined fashion, without ever giving up.
“There is still a long way to go in the championship and we are already preparing for the next challenge in Singapore.”
