Has Andrea Kimi Antonelli undergone a major awakening in F1? As evidenced by not only his sprint pole, but by - the confirmation? - his P3 in qualifying for the Grand Prix, one could say as much. Or is it a circuit specific occurrence, perhaps? The Italian himself answers. Pole for the Sprint race, which didn't go as planned for the young Italian, and then he followed that result up with a P3 during Saturday afternoon's qualifying session for the Grand Prix, - which could have been pole - and in both occasions ahead of teammate
George Russell. Is his success restricted to the track?
"I did FP1 and I felt good and I was able to push the car more to the limit. I think that is down a lot to also experience and confidence. I think also having a week break after a triple-header was really helpful as well for myself to gather all the information."
Antonelli sends warning to his rivals ahead of the European season
Said information,
helped him overcome a major obstacle that had been hindering his performances and therefore his results as well, the young perceptive Italian notes.
"So, definitely a lot of experience, also understanding how to extract more out of the tyre during the whole lap—something I haven’t been doing well during the season."
Antonelli then makes a statement that should undoubtedly put his rivals - and teammate George Russell - on notice.
"There's still room for improvement, but yeah, I feel better and better in the car every weekend. So hopefully after this weekend, we're going to European tracks, tracks that I know well, and hopefully I can maintain the same pace or even go faster."
