George Russell and Kimi Antonelli made contact for the first time in the 2026 season. The two championship rivals put their elbows out during the Sprint in Canada.
Antonelli tried to make his first move into Turn 1 on Lap 6 of the Sprint of the Canadian Grand Prix. Russell left his teammate little room for Antonelli, who had to leave the track after the two also made contact.
Antonelli then tried a move into Turn 8, but locked up, and lost a further position to Lando Norris as well. Over the team radio, Antonelli was furious. "That should be a penalty, I was alongside the mirror!" He then added: "I don't care, he pushed me off!"

Wolff reacts to Antonelli

Mercedes team boss and CEO Toto Wolff also talked to the Italian driver over the team radio. The Austrian said: "Kimi concentrate on the driving please, and not on the radio moaning." Watch the incident below, and follow the session live here!
