Fernando Alonso, together with Oliver Bearman and Franco Colapinto, has reacted to the penalty handed to Lewis Hamilton at the Singapore Grand Prix. “I did not need the extra four.”
- Fernando AlonsoAlonso, who was joined in the press conference by the two rookies, shared his reaction to the penalty given to the Scuderia Ferrari driver following the conclusion of the race at the Marina Bay Circuit. The veteran Spaniard expressed satisfaction with the penalty, adding that a smaller one would have sufficed in a light-hearted remark.
“I was happy with the penalty. I gained the position, so even one second was enough; I did not need the extra four,” Alonso said.
Bearman and Colapinto also shared their reactions to the penalty handed to Hamilton. Both drivers appeared to echo Alonso’s sentiment, joking that they would have loved to see a few more seconds added to the British driver’s time.

“There needed to be a few more so I could overtake him as well,” said Bearman.
“I need more than a few,” added Colapinto.
Alonso on radio broadcast
He also echoed the sentiments of the other two drivers regarding the in-race broadcast messages. The Aston Martin driver explained that radio messages are often selected in a subjective manner, which most time conveys the wrong meaning to the audience of the sport.
The two-time world champion concluded by stressing that some of the messages being broadcast appear a little unnecessary.
“It’s unnecessary, sometimes poorly broadcast, and chosen by the one deciding which radios to air.”
“Misunderstood 99.9% of the time, because there are private conversations with your engineer or your team that you went through on Sunday morning during the strategy meeting.”
“What happens if we come out of the pit stop in this scenario? Or what happens if on lap one we overtake two cars, or we lose two positions, or whatever? You have alternative plans in the strategy, but obviously, when you only broadcast one…”
