Alfa Romeo are set to give female racer Tatiana Calderon an opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car when they put her behind the wheel in Paul Ricard at the end of the month. The news comes at an interesting time as David Coulthard has said that he thinks female racers are able to compete in Formula 1. Could this be the start of more women racing in the sport?
The French Grand Prix was a few months ago now but the circuit is used for testing throughout the year by Pirelli and Formula 1 teams giving inexperienced drivers an opportunity in their cars.
In addition to Calderon, Formula 2 driver Juan Manuel Correa will also take place in their C32.
“At Alfa Romeo, we have trained young talent much more often in the past and we take that task very seriously. Juan Manuel and Tatiana have proven themselves several times and this opportunity gives them the opportunity to gain more knowledge of Formula 1. In addition, they also learn to deal better with engineers and the rest of the crew,” Fred Vasseur sais in an official statement.
