Albon was shocked when he recieved Toro Rosso call

Alexander Albon may be new to Formula 1 but there’s plenty of pressure on the Toro Rosso driver and he’s well aware of it.

Albon will team up with Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso in 2019 after the Russian had a year out of the sport being a simulator driver for Ferrari.

There’s plenty of expectation on the young Thai driver and he admitted he’s not expecting to be given plenty of time.

Motorsport Week posed the question to him and he responded by saying: “No not really. On my side, I think Red Bull work in quite a simple mindset that you have to perform when you have to perform.

Albon was confirmed as the replacement for Brendan Hartley who was released by the team after only one season in the pinnacle of motorsport and he revealed he was very much in the dark about his call up before it happened.

“There were rumours, of course back then it still wasn’t as… there were rumours but nothing really was done at that point,” added Albon.
