Despite the results saying otherwise, Adrian Newey is confident Honda will improve and reach Ferrari and Mercedes level "quite quickly". The Red Bull Chief technical officer remains motivated by the positive vibe Honda has brought in.
Max Verstappen did give Honda their first podium since 2008 in Australia, but Pierre Gasly has only managed to pick up four race points over two Grands Prix. Results could have been worse if Ferrari had performed as expected.
But this hasn't damped Newey's spirits. He remains as excited as he was during the winter in his conversation with Sky Sports.
"They're not quite at Mercedes or Ferrari level yet, but I have every confidence that they will get there quite quickly. They just instil that confidence," he said.
"On the chassis side, I'll be brutally honest we haven't got the car as good as we'd like it to be at the moment. We just need to get on and do our bit."
