Lando Norris ruined his race when he hit the back of Oscar Piastri's MCL 39. When asked what he thought about the collision, Christian Horner drew a parallel between another crash that had happened. Horner said, "It looked very reminiscent of Jenson Button and Lewis in the same part. But it looked like it was just Lando misjudged it, that's what it looked like to me. I'm sure they'll be discussing that in their debrief, but it just looked like a misjudgment to me."
Norris suffers major blow in title race after Canadian Grand Prix
The crash caused Norris to not finish the race. In return, this allowed Piastri to widen the gap by 12 more points. Before the race, the gap was only 10 points, now it sits at 22.
Verstappen was also able to benefit from Norris's blunder. He gained 18 points on the Briton. This reduced the gap down to 21.
According to the previous Haas team principal,
Guenther Steiner, he believes that if Norris does not improve,
McLaren should have Piastri as their number 1 driver.
He said, "I will go in the direction of saying ‘hey Lando, if you’re not cleaning your act up in the next three races, or if you are not in the lead or something happens to Oscar, after the summer break when we come back, you will be number two',"
