McLaren is working hard in the background to make the step towards the top. A new wind tunnel should bridge the gap to the top teams, but that could take until 2024. Daniel Ricciardo however believes his team can achieve this.

Ricciardo's contract expires at the end of 2023, but the Australian already wants to look further ahead. In 2021, McLaren are fighting for third spot, and prior to the 2022 season it is mainly guesswork who will come out on top with the completely new regulations. McLaren, however, is opting for the gradual route.

Ricciardo chases world title

"I understand that the team is on the right track, but there are still some hurdles to overcome before we can fight for the world title in about two years' time. The new wind tunnel could be the last piece in that puzzle. Still, it's crazy that a man who won races for Red Bull Racing years ago is now looking so far ahead in time. "Don't get me wrong, I will definitely try. I would prefer to be successful today. However, my experience has taught me that it is a process. With age, that maturity and calmness will come naturally, the McLaren driver concluded.
