Horner: "It's sad to see him struggling so much now"

It is currently not going well for Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren. Since his switch from Renault to McLaren, he is being outperformed by the young Lando Norris. His old team boss Christian Horner however still thinks he will come through.

Regret Red Bull's departure?

Horner is a guest on the new episode of Beyond The Grid, where presenter Tom Clarkson asked him if Ricciardo regretted his departure from Red Bull. "When he announced that he was leaving Renault, he called me last year," the Red Bull team boss told the show.

He recounts what Ricciardo said to him in that phone call. "You're probably thinking 'I told you so', and yes, you did." With that, the smiling Australian did show some regret for his decision. Nevertheless, Horner understands Ricciardo's decision. "It was a decision he felt he had to make at the time."

Poor form Ricciardo

At his current team McLaren, Ricciardo is not quite in his right place yet. Norris is clearly performing better than his new teammate. Ricciardo is currently eighth in the championship with 40 points. Norris is third with 101 points. "It's sad to see him struggling so much right now, but he'll get through it," Horner is still confident. "He's still a great driver."
